			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>One of the biggest questions I&#8217;m asked all the time is &#8220;How can I raise my rates?&#8221;  The answer to this question can be &#8220;many different ways&#8221; but the first way to start is by creating value in everything you do. </p>
<p>To illustrate this point, let me give you an example.  Most of the computer businesses that I have coached and consulted with, when they first see a customer or client, they go through a routine of checking items on the computer, a standard routine.  Generally, if they&#8217;re checking out the computer, they&#8217;re looking at the cables making sure all are connected, checking other hardware components, software, you&#8217;re standard routine.</p>
<p><span id="more-86"></span>
<p>They tend to do all this as a &#8220;part of doing business&#8221; and it&#8217;s a process they take for granted. My suggestion is to &#8220;create a value&#8221; in this &#8220;checklist&#8221; of items that they are doing. I&#8217;m not saying you have to charge for this, but create a value. For the clients that I have coached, I suggest creating the &#8220;X (number) Point Diagnostic Checklist Analysis.&#8221; I have them figure how many tasks they actually do, assign a number to it and then create a value. Most of my clients create anywhere from $50-$400 (depending on if it&#8217;s home or business) value for this service and offer it to their customer or client as a &#8220;free&#8221; service.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s what you&#8217;ve done. You&#8217;ve taken a task that you normally &#8220;give away&#8221; and created a value that your customer can understand and given it to them for free. Now the customer has a perception of the value of your services.</p>
<p>This is just one small way to create value. There are many others. Bottom line, when you create value in everything you do, you&#8217;ll start seeing major increases in your computer consulting business.</p>

Most computer consultants I have  met are great at the technical aspects of the business but sadly lacking  in their marketing and sales abilities.  You see, they “think” their in  the “computer repair or networking (or insert what your business is here)”… business when in reality they  are in the Marketing &amp; Sales Business.  You are actually a  “marketer &amp; seller” of your computer consultant services/products.<br />

<p>You have to be able to market your computer consultant business then sell your  products and services to your prospective and current customers in order  to survive and make the income you want.  Sounds like a daunting task,  huh?  But really it’s not that difficult and anyone can do it.   Remember, at one time you didn’t know anything about driving a car…. but  you learned how.  Same thing applies here, you can discover all you  need to know in order to explode your business and blow your competition  out of the water.</p>
<p>This is sometimes a hard concept for most computer consultants to grasp  but your primary concerns and priorities should be your marketing.  The  right kind of marketing keeps more business coming to you.  Once you  have your marketing system in place, you can control business like a  water faucet.  Want more business, open up your marketing faucet.</p>
<p>Think about it, how nice would it be to go to bed at night knowing  how much business you had the next day, the next week or even the next  month.  Plus in knowing this, you would also know how much money you  could be expecting to generate from all this constant business.  Your  marketing “faucet” can achieve this for you.</p>

<p>This email came to me from Bob Killillay of BNS Enterprises in Washington state. The subject of his email was &#8220;Unsolictied Testimonial&#8221;. Take a minute or two and read this:</p>

<p><em>Today was starting out a little slow, with maintenance of my vehicles making the day a late start.</em></p>
<p><em>The two jobs on the books were small jobs – <strong>per my old thinking, pre-Steve Hurst coaching.</strong></em></p>
<p><em>On my way to each job, I did some <strong>Steve Hurst re-think</strong> and turned $149 into $419 – <strong>an increase of $270</strong>. All of this was in service fees.</em></p>
<p><em>For the details, read farther.</em></p>
<p><em>The first job was to check why a customer was not getting email. It was simply a matter of a local ISP having changed to gmail for their servers – their email address had not changed. This might have normally been a $50 charge, as it was simple and not worthy of a full $119 (special tune-up) or the $169 (full, more difficult tune-up). There were two computers – a desktop, and a Netbook. I had been out three or four times recently and charged the ‘per incident’ low charge. We all get caught in not liking to charge for very short, simple calls – they are big to the customer, small to us.</em></p>
<p><em>After I finished the job, I pulled out the maintenance plans that I have and suggested that he simply pre-pay the basic plan for one full year ahead – for both of his computers. It was a no-brainer to him and his wife, and they purchased the plan – my otherwise $50 for the one computer went to $253.50.</em></p>
<p><em>The other job was similar – while it might have been $99, as it was a pretty simple job, I suggested that we go $169 and I’ll check back in six months.</em></p>
<p><em>That is how the $270 increase came about.</em></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>How many times have you talked to a customer and one of the first things out of their mouth is “What’s New?” If you’re like me, it’s happened lots of times. In fact, it doesn’t always have to be a customer, could be a friend, a prospective customer, anyone.</p>
<p>Having an answer to this question is essential. When someone asks this question, it’s an invitation to tell them “What’s New”. In other words, it’s a great “selling opportunity”. Customers like something new…..so give it too them.</p>

<p>If you notice, McDonalds is always offering something “NEW”. Sometimes it’s a “re-hashed” idea from a few years ago, but it’s now…NEW. Then you’ll see the other fast food chains copying their ideas. Ray Kroc had a great quote about this, “We can invent faster than the others can copy.”</p>
<p>When a customer asks “What’s New”, be prepared at all times with some kind of answer…..”I’m offering a new type of service” or “I have a new piece of hardware or software available”….. or anything else you have to offer…..but HAVE SOMETHING!!!</p>
<p>When someone asks you this question, it’s what we call in the Sales Game……PRIME OPPORTUNITY Selling Time! Take advantage of it.</p>

<p>Some would tell you it’s the stock market, mutual funds, precious  metals or municipal bonds.  However, the best investment that promises  far greater rewards is an investment in YOU!  Dollar for dollar,  investing in your own education promises vastly greater benefits than  any other investment you can name.<br />

<p>Education unlocks your earning potential and allows you to increase  your business and increase your income.  It helps you take your life  wherever you want it to go. I can’t think of another investment that can  promise anything close to it.</p>
<p>And if you want to talk about long term security…..a stock can lose  half its value tomorrow. That can’t happen to you, because your  education gives you lasting value. And the more you know, the more you  are worth in the world.</p>
<p>Ultimately, your real wealth is not in your bank account, but in the  value of what you know.  It’s been said that wealthy people have great  libraries in their home, poor people have big screen TVs.  Think about  it.</p>

<p>This discovery resulted in billions of dollars being spent developing  a pen that would write in outer space, under water, in temperatures  over a hundred degrees, on top of an ice cap mountain, in fact any  condition that you could possibly imagine.</p>
<p>And, you can buy these pens today.</p>
<p>However… do you know what the Russians did?<br />

<p>Use a pencil!  This demonstrates that we humans have a tendency to  over complicate things.</p>
<p>I read this years ago, but just saw it again the other day.  It got  me thinking how we tend to over complicate things in our businesses.  It  goes back to the philosophy of “doing the little things.”</p>
<p>It has been my experience that “doing the little things” WILL have a  positive effect on your business.  So, make that phone call, send that  follow up letter or email, mail off that thank you card, etc….start  “doing the little things.”</p>

<p>This is an interesting phenomenon.  I know back in my sales manager  days and now with some of my coaching clients, I show them how they can  be successful, but they just can’t seem to take that extra step, to move  forward, to take ACTION.  And what’s even more interesting, most of  their fears are not true.</p>
<p>Most recently, I’ve had clients that I recommend they do a mailing to  their customer list with a special offer.  At times, this can be in the  hundreds of customers.  Nine times out of ten, first thing out of their  mouth…”What if they all call me, I can’t keep up?”<br />

<p>When you think about it….that is EXACTLY what you want to happen.   You want more business.  But right off the bat, you scare yourself with  the “fear of success”.  Now the reality is, very rarely does everyone  take you up on your offer.  But, we USE that rational to keep us from  being successful.</p>
<p>On the flip side, let’s say for fun….the majority of you customers  take you up on your offer.  GREAT!  Believe me, if it happened, you  would be able to figure a way to handle it all.</p>
<p>I’ve heard this quote from another person and I love it…., “Do it  NOW…clean up the mess later”.  When you think about it…it’s a great  quote.  At least you get started….moves you to ACTION, which is very  important.</p>
<p>Don’t let the fear of success stop you…do something…do anything…Do it  now…and you can clean up the mess later.</p>
